{"id":1190,"date":"2026-04-23T12:51:16","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T12:51:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doublelayer.eu\/vilab\/?p=1190"},"modified":"2026-04-23T13:05:49","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T13:05:49","slug":"mindset","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doublelayer.eu\/vilab\/2026\/04\/23\/mindset\/","title":{"rendered":"Mindset"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MSCA is often seen as a decision point.<br \/>\nBefore the result, many think:<br \/>\nthis will define my future.<br \/>\nAfter the result, some think:<br \/>\nnow I am safe.<br \/>\nBut both views come from a fixed mindset,<br \/>\nwhich leads to insecurity feeling closer to the fellowship end.<br \/>\nStatistically, MSCA does not define your career.<br \/>\nIt increases your probabilities to be employed.<br \/>\nYou are not selecting just one path.<br \/>\nYou are expanding the number of possible paths.<br \/>\nThese ideas come from the growth mindset framework \u2013<br \/>\nit explains how mindset prepares people for success.<br \/>\nThe people on this slide followed it consistently,<br \/>\noften without naming it.<br \/>\nSo the question is not whether you win or lose the MSCA PF.<br \/>\nThe question is how you use this step to move forward.<\/p>\n<p>Let us take a look at how careers in biology<br \/>\nin the US careers evolve in numbers.<br \/>\nThese are shown in black numbers.<br \/>\nIf we add MSCA data in colour numbers,<br \/>\nwe see a similar pattern.<br \/>\nRight after the fellowship,<br \/>\nmore than half are employed.<br \/>\nAfter two years, almost 90% are employed.<br \/>\nAnd almost all say the skills gained are useful.<br \/>\nHerewith, the most used skills are: communication, networking, and project management.<br \/>\nAround 70% stay in academia, about 20% go to industry.<br \/>\nBut only one in three in academia have permanent positions,\u000bwhile in industry, four out of five are permanent.<br \/>\nAt the same time, about half of researchers desire to become a professor, but only one in ten reach that path.<br \/>\nSo there is a clear gap between expectations and probabilities.<br \/>\nThis picture shows that careers are not a single predefined path.<br \/>\nThey are a set of probable stepwise paths.<br \/>\nThus, the rational approach is to align expectations with probabilities to step up,<br \/>\nnot with initial desires.<\/p>\n<p>Please think on this idea.<br \/>\nFixing on \u201cprecious\u201d results is destructive.<br \/>\nIt creates pressure before MSCA,<br \/>\nand false security after it.<br \/>\nGrowing along your career,<br \/>\nwith purpose, is constructive.<br \/>\nIt means using each step,<br \/>\nnot depending on a single result.<br \/>\nMSCA is one of many steps.<br \/>\nNot the destination.<br \/>\nSo keep calm,\u000band keep going.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MSCA is often seen as a decision point.
